About our organization
“When our beloved mother Portia died December 1, 2016, my brother and sister and I were left with a feeling that we didn’t want her loving legacy of Christian outreach to die with her. In this way she can live on in her spiritual journey of providing more for those with less, through open hearts and hands.
The concept of Portia's House as an organization to provide outreach is that – like our mother – would love people no matter their personal hardship, station, faith, color or gender or sex. Our mother always invited a variety of people to our life and our home and we would often see welcomed strangers at the dinner table .“
Portia’s House was created by her daughter Robin Wood Spillias, in honor of her mother and supported by son LTC Dean Wood, and daughter Rachel Wood Sloan.
